Sima Excavating & Landscaping

Have a landscaping-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Any reputable excavation contractor or company should be properly licensed and insured. Hiring an excavation company that doesn’t have sufficient insurance coverage can be incredibly dangerous to you, the workers on your property, and your property itself. Sima Excavating & Landscaping is licensed by the state of Connecticut and carries liability policies that are designed to protect your property, our equipment, and our employees.

  • Who is responsible for permits?

Every excavation contractor is different and some need property owners to pull permits or be a part of the process. Others handle it all in-house by themselves. It’s important to ask this question so everyone starts out on the same page and your project isn’t delayed by permit misunderstandings. At Sima Excavating & Landscaping, we will always be transparent about which permits you need for your project to adhere to Connecticut guidelines and assist in organizing both permits and appropriate inspections when necessary.

  • What experience do you have?

There are a variety of expertise areas in excavation, so finding excavation contractors that have the experience you need is important. You generally want to avoid having your property be an experiment for a new contractor who hasn’t successfully completed a job like yours before. Our family-owned business has 20 years of experience in excavating, landscaping, and septic service needs, so we're sure to have what you're looking for!

  • Is cleanup included?

While Sima Excavating & Landscaping does offer job site cleanup, not all excavation contractors do! You don’t want to be unexpectedly left with a post-construction mess and have to hire an additional company to get your property cleared. That's why we make sure to leave your land looking its best after getting the job done!

  • Is the bid an estimate or the final cost?

Depending on your excavation contractor, the bid can reflect either one of these options. Most contracts, like ours, use an estimate method to help address any unexpected aspects of the job that might arise during excavation. Since you most likely won't have a fixed cost for your project, be sure to have expectations in place for unexpected costs that may arise during the project that are outside of the estimate.

  • Do you provide additional services?

We do offer additional services since we understand that it can make it even easier to complete your excavation project and get everything you need “under one roof”. For example, at Sima Excavating & Landscaping, we aren’t just an excavation company, our services include:

    •Total Site Preparation

    •Land Grading

    •Hydrovac Excavation

    •Material Hauling

    •Dumpster Rental

    •Demolition

    •Site Cleanup

    •Plumbing Services

    •Snow Removal

Our excavation contractors handle everything from start to finish so you can relax as we get the job done!

  • What does the excavation process include?

Excavation is about more than simply digging. It includes land development and strategic planning to complete the project successfully. From initial demolition to landscaping finishes, our excavation contractors provide land clearing, rock, tree, and stump removal, site grading, and whatever else is necessary to properly excavate your land.

  • Are you OSHA-certified?

Our excavation contractors are OSHA-certified and Hazwoper-certified. According to IBISWorld, there are roughly 50,000 excavation contractors in the US, but not all have the proper certifications. We, however, pride ourselves in getting every job done safely, and in the proper way.
